What happens if you clean mold without a mask?

If you're not wearing any personal protective equipment (PPE), you're causing all those mold spores to settle on your clothes, in the area you're cleaning, on your shoes (allowing mold to spread to other areas of the house), in your eyes and nose until it reaches the upper respiratory system. In the most extreme cases, an allergic reaction to black mold spores can cause vomiting, nausea, and bleeding in the lungs and nose. With the possible effects of exposure to black mold, it's not worth the risk of solving the problem without the help of a professional. However, in most cases, this is exactly what you should do.

That's because mold, unlike common dirt or scum, is hazardous to both your health and your property. Long-term exposure to toxic mold can wreak haVOC on human respiratory and nervous systems; and when a mold infestation spreads, cleaning it can cost tens of thousands of dollars. In the most extreme cases, entire properties have been demolished due to mold problems. I did something incredibly stupid: in my yard black mold grew along the wall (it only covered the door frame a little and maybe a square foot near the door) and I wanted to clean it with a little vinegar to prevent it from spreading.

I cleaned it, scrubbed it, and then packed the door and wood with a little vinegar. We wanted to put in some sofas and remake the patio to turn it into a glazed terrace, so I wanted to clean it well. I didn't wear a mask and I realized that once I was done I probably should have put one on. I was wearing gloves and, like an idiot, I forgot my mask.

Do I need to go to the doctor just in case? I've heard that black mold is very toxic, but my family has told me it's not that bad, but I'm not really convinced. To eliminate mold growth on hard surfaces, use commercial products, soap and water, or a bleach solution of no more than 1 cup of household linen bleach in 1 gallon of water. You can make all the guesses you want, and in some cases, mold removal efforts on your own will yield excellent results. If there is mold in your home, you should clean it up and fix any water problems, such as leaks in ceilings, walls, or pipes.

While the serious health effects of exposure to black mold are enough to prevent you from eliminating it yourself, it's not the only reason to call in a team of experts to treat a mold infestation in your home. Calling on a professional team to handle the removal of black mold can be a daunting task, especially if you're concerned about the costs of remediation.
